Congratulations go out to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, her husband, Todd, and the rest of the family, who welcomed Trig Paxton Van Palin a month early, on April 18. Not only does the baby boy have two middle names; all of his names are unusual. Paxton is becoming more and more popular as a first name, so it’s fitting that it would be a hot choice for a middle name as well. According to the Anchorage Daily News, it’s in honor of the small snowmobiling town of Paxton, Alaska. As for the second middle name, the paper also quoted Todd Palin as saying, “We’ve always liked the middle name Van because, you know, growing up in the ’80s, Van Palin would be a really cool name.” His siblings also have names you don’t hear every day: Piper, Willow, Bristol and Track.

Though born April 10, the new daughter of former Law & Order star Elisabeth Rohm and her fiance, Ron Wooster, has another month for a middle name: August. In fact, Easton August Anthony has two middle names. Rohm’s publicist told the Associated Press that Anthony is a family name and the rest came to Rohm in a dream. I enjoyed watching Finola Hughes as Anna Devane on All My Children. Now, she’s added child number three, Sadie Beatrice Young, with husband Russell Young. Soap Opera Weekly reports that the baby, born four months ago, got her middle name thanks to family history: Both parents have relatives with that name, and Hughes also said the baby “looks old-fashioned.”

Harlow Winter Kate Madden, the baby girl born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden on Jan. 11, 2008, is a plethora of middle name special-ness. It really doesn’t get any better than this: Alabama Gypsy Rose. That’s the name of the baby born Dec. 1 to actress Drea de Matteo and musician Shooter Jennings. This looks at first glance like a case of two middles names, but in this case “Gypsy Rose” is probably intended as a single middle name, a la “Anne Marie.” Congrats to the family.

Oh, this is a fun one. Country singer Brad Paisley’s new son, born nine months ago, is apparently going by his middle name, Huckleberry. Brad and his wife, Kimberly, call the boy “Huck” rather than his first name, William, according to People Magazine.

Congrats to Amelia Heinle and Thad Luckinbill, actors on the soap the Young and the Restless. Baby Thaddeus Rowe Luckinbill, born Nov. 2, will go by his middle name. Rowe, a break from the increasingly popular name Rowen (or, Rowan, for girls such as Brooke Shield’s child), is more common as a last name and seems to be of Gaelic origin. By some accounts, it means “red-haired.” Thaddeus Rowe was also the name of a 1970 L.A. Dodgers infielder.

Someone sent the Kitty Hell blog a document showing that an Australian woman has legally changed her middle name to Hello Kitty. Our first thought was that she will one day regret this like a soccer mom regrets her Winnie the Pooh ankle tattoo, but who are we to say? We at Babymiddlename.net have no beef with Hello Kitty, and as long as you’re not changing your name to something hateful, have at it! You can always change it back, but it’ll cost you.

Model Milla Jovovich and her fiance’s first child balances a common last name with short but intriguing first and middle names. The baby girl, who was born Nov. 3, is named Ever Gabo Anderson. While Gabo is the name for a series of reforms in turn-of-the-20th century Korea, as well as an island near Australia, it’s unlikely Jovovich, who is from the Ukraine, picked the name for those reasons. One baby name Web site tabbed Gabo as German, while another said it’s Hebrew for “God is my might.” Still another source credits Gabo to Star Wars Wookies. Update: Milla revealed on her official Web site that Gabo, pronounced “Gabeau,” is a combination of her parents’ first names: Galina and Bogie.
